Subject: Another Beautiful September Day

in Honduras. We had a 2.5 day break from the rain the hurricane hit Texas last week, but the rains are back.

It's like... April in Paris?

Today we sent our bull for processing; it's part of our plan/goal to be cow-less by 4th quarter next year. Then we will buy and raise feeder calves for meat only. First the bull had to go because so long as he was here, the cows would not stop reproducing. Now we need to wait nine months for any calves the cows might have and then another few months until weaning. Once that is done, we will keep the calves and sell or process the cows.

With the limited amount of land we have on the farm, maintaining a herd of cows is not cost effective. We hope to have a tractor and begin growing corn for the hogs and feeder calves by next June, the start of the rainy season. With those things in place, I believe we will be maximizing the efficiency of the farm. Besides that, the cows won't be here to jump fences and eat the Mennonite's corn; or worse, eat Paula's potted plants on the porch.
