Subject: Good Friday

On Friday the older kids and I caravaned with a group from Siguatepeque to Comayagua to see the remarkable sawdust carpets made specifically to celebrate the life of Christ.

Here is a link to tell you more about the tradition here in Honduras:

http://www.hondurastips.hn/english/2013/03/26/comayagua-celebrates-half-a-century-of-making-carpets/#.U1NNYuhX-uY

These incredible carpets are made of fine sawdust, colored, and then sprinkled with colanders and by hand into hand cut cardboard stencils.  Different organizations, schools, and families design and craft these carpets to be displayed on Good Friday.  At 10 am there is a procession that takes place on the carpets.

Here is the beginning of our photos.  Faith and John both took photos to share.   I will post more in the future.

The carpets are displayed around the Town Square and Cathedral of Comayagua, which is the capital of the Department of Comayagua (like a state).

The streets are lined with the sawdust carpets, people crafting the carpets, and people coming to view the carpets.

Each sawdust carpet is unique.  This one was taken from a painting.  You can see a small paper with the painting that they are using as a guide.  Incredible.

The colors are stunning.

This carpet was one of my favorites; not just the tender portrayal of Christ as the Shepherd, but also the use of different local materials.

Most of the parts that are white are made by using salt.

I loved the bright colors.

For me, each carpet and arrangement creatively expressed the life and sacrifice that Christ gave for me.  What a Savior we have in Jesus.

We have many, many more photos to share!  Credit for these photos goes to our daughter, Faith Rose.
