Subject: Gaming The System

Faith has been such a hUUUge help here while we're shorthanded. She does the cooking, cleaning, keeps the littles busy and out of trouble, and she also does the grocery shopping. I don't have the money to pay her what her work is worth.

With regards to shopping, there's a bit of a hack that we use to get our money from the USA to Honduras faster than normal. The only way to send money without some kind of fee, ie ATM fee, wire fee etc, is to open a bank account down here and deposit checks from American banks. Unfortunately this requires 3-4 business weeks to clear funds. Mind you, the funds are removed from our US accounts within 2-4 days, but the banks down here like to hold onto funds and loan them out at 30%. Anyhoo, to get around this fund clearing wait, we try to make our regular purchases with a US credit card, That way, we can just pay off the credit card, which I do 2-3 times per week, and have access to our funds immediately.

Honduras is not quite as liberal with credit card transactions as America. You always have to show a photo ID when you make purchase with a credit card, always. What we've come to find out after twelve years here, is that the photo ID does not have to match the person making the purchase. It only has to match the name on the credit card.

So for the past couple of months, Faith has taken mine or Paula's card and purchased the groceries. I still can't believe this works.

Praise God for such a diligent, faithful, responsible young lady. We love you, Faith. (Stop blushing.)
