Hola! Greetings from Honduras =)
I arrived here on Monday very tired, but excited. I love being here already, it feels right, and like home. I think the little boys finally know my name, after calling me Chelsea and Shelby for two days. My name in Spanish is Laurena, which I love. I've never had a nickname or anything before, so it is fun. The little boys have also tested me, or are testing me, but either way they seem to have begun to accept me and hopefully will start to listen to me more. This morning was the first time I had them to myself. We sang songs, had races, danced, played uno and go fish (pesca!), and worked on English vocabulary and numbers. I try to make them talk to me all in English, first of all because that's all I know, and second because I'm hoping it will help them learn better and distinguish it from Spanish. When they listen, they pick up things well and seem to have a lot of fun. I enjoy how much they talk to me and how much they smile and laugh. That is a blessing in itself. They tell me Reynaldo has never talked this much; I am glad he is and will work to keep it that way. Last night I helped Fernando with multiplication tables. I am hoping to help a lot with school and learning. Today there is talk of a science project for Rolman and David; I love science, it is one of my strengths.
Yesterday we walked to buy flowers for the side of the cosita. It is so beautiful here, the mountains and the clouds and breath taking. I love clouds and their beauty, and their closeness here makes me feel physically closer to God, which is comforting. The stars are bright and gorgeous here, and oh so clear. I've never seen them as bright as they are here before. There are lots of farm noises at night, but I kind of like it, at least until it wakes me up at 5 in the morning. Hannah showed me around the farm Monday afternoon, so I got to see the pigs (gigantic!), the chickens and cute little chickadees, all the other animals, and the garden.
I would like for you all to pray for my back, it has been hurting since Monday and I don't really know why. I'm sure some of it has to do with picking up Carlito all day and sitting on the ground constantly to play games with the boys. It's not too bad, more of an annoyance and inconvience. Thank you. =)
I have my camera with me so we should be able to put new pictures up soon. I know the Colbath's is broken, but mine can substitute while I am here.
I have already tried lots of new foods! It all has been good so far though. The most interesting wasn't even Honduran -French onion soup. It was really good though, especially with homemade bread.
I can't think of anything else for now, but I will write again=)
Lauren (or Laurena)
