For the past few months I've enjoyed reading the Old Testament sequentially. It's been years since I've done that and it certainly has new meaning for me now. Once again I find that the minute a prophet is not on the spot leading the Israelites into some kind of military victory, they began to worship other "gods". Of course, there is no other god besides the Lord. There are demons whom will do anything to pull us away from the Lord. The Israelites would make altars and statues "Baals" that they would worship and indulge in the sin of that religion; which seemed mainly to be adultery and child sacrifice.      Of course we are more civilized and sophisticated than that. We don't make statues.      Sure, our culture glorifies youth, sexual enhancement drugs, sex and has an escape clause for those that indulge a little too much (aka abortion). But we don't have Baals on every corner.      Thankfully many of us do not get caught up in those kinds of sins or idol worship. By the way, the Lord put idol worship pretty high up on his list of no-nos in the Ten Commandments. So where is the snare? In the modern world we are busy. We've been inculcated with "Time is Money". We cannot afford idol time. Whether we be on the way to work, on the way to vacation or on the way to some entertainment endeavor, we've got to keep busy. We need iPods, cell phones, borg style phone implants (Bluetooth?) and text messaging devices to keep us connected. Should there be a moment of silence, it is a moment lost forever.      Then again, the Lord might have a chance to speak to us in that "lost moment".
